Skagit Valley Tour and Summer Supper

The “Summer Supper” is a fundraiser for the Les Dames d’Escoffier Seattle, of which I’m a proud member. This event supports our Green Tables program supporting organizations that promote education on all aspects of growing, sourcing and preparing nutritious food–from community gardens to preschools –which takes on different form from year to year–on August 19 heads first to the widely-celebrated WSU Bread Lab with a presentation from the rock-star among wheat breeders (seriously, a most fascinating and inspiring grain scholar), Dr. Steve Jones. Guests then visit a nearby mill before proceeding to the WSU Extension Demonstration Gardens for not only garden tours, but a glorious meal sitting at tables in the midst of their beautiful fruit orchard. What a pleasure to be returning to the peninsula for this fun weekend celebrating seafood…particularly my favorite, Dungeness crab! I’ll be demonstrating a recipe from the latest book, Crab, followed by a book signing of both Crab and Oysters. PLUS I have the great fortune of joining two wonderful women, Lissa James from Hama Hama Oysters and Art of the Pie maven Kate McDermott for a panel discussion at 2:00 about women in the world of food.
